The story behind Nendran Crunch
How a Kerala kitchen staple became our most-requested trail mix.

If you have ever stepped into a traditional home in Kochi during the monsoon, you've likely been greeted by the rich, warm aroma of freshly sliced bananas being gently lowered into a simmering pan of cold-pressed coconut oil. This is the Nendran banana—not just any fruit, but the undisputed king of Kerala's agricultural harvest, beloved for its starchy sweetness and golden flesh.
For decades, Nendran chips have been the standard offering for honored guests and returning family members. But at Mom's, we asked ourselves: how could we take this crisp, comforting staple and elevate it into a balanced, nutrient-dense snack that you'd want to keep by your desk or carry on your morning commute?

Sourcing Only From Local Smallholders
We source our Nendran bananas directly from organic farming collectives in Thrissur and Wayanad. Unlike mass-market brands that buy in bulk and store for months, we wait until each hand of bananas is perfectly mature—firm, slightly heavy, with a deep yellow skin showing the first flecks of dark sugar.
"A great chip isn't made in a factory; it's grown by farmers who understand the rhythm of the soil."
— Amma's Diary, Batch 12
Once they arrive in our kitchen, the magic begins. We discard any synthetic sprays, clean them thoroughly in pure well-water, and dry-roast them in small brass trays. By combining the natural banana starch with organic pumpkin seeds, sun-dried cranberries, and a dusting of local Tellicherry black pepper, we created the Nendran Crunch—a trail mix that balances sweet, salt, and heat in a single handful.

When you open your next tin, take a moment to notice the golden hue. That is the true color of Kerala's sunshine, roasted and packed within forty-eight hours of harvesting. We hope it brings a little bit of Kochi's warmth into your home.
